ISAPP welcomes participation in upcoming one-day scientific symposium in Tokyo
From the time ISAPP was founded it has been international in scope, welcoming researchers from all around the world who aim to advance the scientific fields of biotics and fermented foods. Thus, one of ISAPP’s goals over time is to ensure that best practices and findings are shared across international borders – synergizing efforts in different countries and enabling scientific advancements globally.
To help meet the goals of accelerating global scientific advancement and showcasing innovative biotics research, ISAPP will hold a scientific symposium on October 6, 2026 in Tokyo, Japan in conjunction with its annual meeting. The event will feature leading academic and industry experts in biotic science from North and South America, Europe, Australasia, and across Asia, gathering for a dynamic day of networking, discussion and knowledge-sharing. The event is organized with support from three local Japanese scientific societies: the Japanese Society for Lactic Acid Bacteria, the Intestinal Microbiology Society, and the Japanese Association for Food Immunology.
ISAPP invites participation from scientists, clinicians and early career researchers who want to take advantage of this unique opportunity to participate in international networking and hear about cutting-edge science and global research insights. Participants will have opportunities to connect, interact and share their work during networking breaks, welcome reception and poster opportunities showcasing academic, early career researcher and industry studies.
Keynote speakers at the symposium include local luminaries such as Prof. Yuji Naito, Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine, as well as leading experts from North America, Europe and beyond, including Prof. Michael Gänzle from University of Alberta, Canada, and Prof. Suzanne Brix, Technical University of Denmark.
Bringing together this international group in Tokyo is an important activity for ISAPP’s continued leadership in framing scientific discussions to advance the fields of probiotics, prebiotics, postbiotics, synbiotics and fermented foods. During the organization’s 24-year history, ISAPP has led the publication of over 90 academic papers. The ISAPP-led scientific consensus definitions of probiotics and other key terms, all published in the journal Nature Reviews Gastroenterology & Hepatology, have together received over 1.1 million views and serve as valuable resources for scientists and regulators globally.
