Policy on Use of Generative AI

Generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools are having widespread effects on the way written materials are created by scientists and science communicators alike. The best way to continue advancing the science of biotics is with ethical, transparent and responsible use of generative AI across the scientific community.

ISAPP currently holds the following policy on the use of generative AI in its digital and non-digital content:

  • ISAPP is committed to the provision of reliable, trustworthy and evidence-based information on biotics. We value and prioritise the contributions, expertise and diverse perspectives of human scientific experts.
  • Humans are responsible and accountable for all content published on the ISAPP website, with scientific experts and science communicators standing behind all published facts and opinions.
  • In our content, authors are required to disclose any use of generative AI tools for composing ideas or text, and generating references or images. You will see a disclosure within the relevant article/webpage if this occurs. Human authors remain responsible for content accuracy and validity.
  • Authors of ISAPP content may use generative AI tools for copy editing (word choice, style, grammar and spelling) or to draft derivative content (e.g. summary points), which is subsequently verified by science professionals.

In this time of rapid change and advancement in generative AI technologies, ISAPP commits to regularly reviewing our responsible use of these technologies in service of our mission to advance and disseminate scientific knowledge.
