To increase overall knowledge and harmonize global efforts around probiotics, prebiotics, synbiotics, postbiotics and fermented foods, scientists need to establish a shared definition of these terms. Over the past two decades, ISAPP has brought together meetings with top scientific experts in each field, who have published scientific consensus definitions of each term. These definitions are used by a growing number of scientific, industry and regulatory organizations around the globe.
