Understanding Prebiotics and Fiber

Dietary fiber has long been associated with health benefits, and nutritional guidelines recommend consuming around 28 grams of fiber per day. But some dietary fibers have a special status – that is, their health benefits come about because they stimulate specific microorganisms in your digestive tract. This special category of fibers is called prebiotics, and you can consume them in foods (in varying amounts), or in supplements (in specified amounts).
